Russian Foreign Ministry on the situation in Burkina Faso

We are closely following the development of the situation in Burkina Faso, where on September 30, as a result of the second unconstitutional change of power in the last nine months, the head of State P.A. was removed from the leadership of the country.Damiba. Burkina Faso was taken over by a group of military personnel led by Army Captain I. Traore, who announced the suspension of the Constitution, the dissolution of the Transitional Government and the National Assembly, as well as the closure of State borders and the introduction of a curfew. As stated, the reason for the displacement of P.-A.Damiba was served by the inefficiency of his administration, including the inability to protect the country's population from the growing terrorist threat.

We call on all participants in the internal political process in Burkina Faso to exercise restraint in order to preserve internal security and socio-economic stability. We hope that the new leadership of the state will adhere to the line for the speedy return of the country to constitutional order.
