The Summer multidisciplinary University "Russia — Africa" has ended in Crimea

September 29. Doctors from African countries have successfully completed advanced training courses at the V. I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University (KFU) within the framework of the Russia — Africa Summer Multidisciplinary University. The project was launched by the participants of the RAFU consortium (Russian-African Network University) with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

The purpose of the educational program is to support foreign graduates of Russian universities who are already working in African countries in their acquired specialties.

At the end of August, the courses started at the S. I. Georgievsky KFU Medical Academy. The university accepted its graduates — 10 practitioners from Zimbabwe, Libya, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Tunisia, who mastered two-week intensive courses in surgery, gynecology and obstetrics — the most priority areas of medicine in Africa.

"It's great to be back at my university, especially now that I'm already working as a doctor and can talk to teachers as colleagues," said Takudzwa Reinald Macheka, a medical doctor from Zimbabwe.

The participants listened to lectures from teachers, and also had an internship in medical institutions of the Crimea. In particular, at the Center for Simulation and Simulation Training of the V. I. Vernadsky KFU, foreign guests were able to apply new knowledge, work out all stages of the operation on a dummy, hone movements and see errors using 3D modeling.

In addition to the main program for doctors, various cultural events were provided. They visited the sights of the peninsula, looked at Simferopol and Yalta, saw the Tavrida cave for the first time.

After completing the intensive, African specialists received certificates of completion of the educational program. Now they plan to apply new knowledge in their home countries to raise local healthcare to a new level.

10 Russian universities are involved in the Russia—Africa project. This interaction is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Russia and African states in the field of education, science and economic development.
