Types of Road Signs for Driving Car

Traffic signs vary in shape and color. So you can distinguish their type. Each group includes signs that are similar in meaning.

In total there are 8 types of road signs:

prohibitory;
warning;
priority signs;
prescriptive;
special requirements;
informational;
service;
with additional information.
Let us examine how some differ from others, and what signs are included in each group.

Prohibitory

As the name of the group implies, the signs forbid the driver to take any action: drive, turn, overtake, accelerate, stop. All prohibition signs are round.

The fines for each of the signs are different, depending on the situation of car driver. For example, entry under a “brick” into a closed territory is punishable by a fine of 1 hundred dollars for violating a sign’s precept. And for the passage under the "brick" in the oncoming lane, the rights for 2-4 years will already be taken away.

Cars that include special signals and flashing beacons can ignore prohibition signs. The actions of the signs end at the nearest intersection or at signs that cancel the previously entered restrictions.

Warning

Warning signs make a triangular shape in white with a red edging. The only exceptions to this rule are signs indicating the level crossing and direction of rotation.

The warning signs cannot be violated because they do not prohibit anything. The purpose of these signs is to warn the driver of imminent danger. For example, the narrowing of the road ahead, the possibility of access to the road for animals, slippery roads and dangerous turns.

Such signs are installed 50-300 m from the danger, depending on where it is located - in the city or on the highway.

Priority signsone

These road signs explain who should be the first to pass a road intersection or other difficult stretch of road. For violation of such a sign at crossroads fined 1,000-1500 rubles.

The signs explaining the priority are made in different shapes and colors. They do not obey the general typing rule. For example, the sign with the main road is made in the form of a yellow rhombus with a white edging, and the “Give way” sign is an inverted white triangle with a red border.

Also, priority signs include signs warning the driver about approaching an intersection with a secondary road, signs that regulate the advantage of a narrow path, etc.

Mandatory signs
As a rule, prescriptive signs are made in the shape of a circle. Pictograms are most often depicted on a dark blue background. They allow movement: “arrows” before crossing roads, a sign announcing the entrance to a roundabout, signs indicating pedestrian or bicycle paths.

Prescriptive signs do not impose restrictions, but rather require a specific maneuver: they show the direction, speed and type of transport that can continue to move. Have you check used car auction platforms?

Signs of special requirements
Markers with special requirements combine several types of signs at once - informational and permitted. Signs with a pedestrian crossing demonstrate where pedestrians can cross the road, and drivers where they need to slow down and be especially careful. The signs for leaving the motorway, areas for public transport only and their stopping places fall into the same category.

All signs are square or rectangular in shape, can be blue (arrows, reverse or one-way), green (entrance to the highway) and white (special restricted areas).

Information signs

The information signs include blue squares indicating the permitted U-turn, a parking sign, pedestrian crossings, dead-end signs, traffic patterns, etc. In addition, these are also signs with the names of cities, villages and streets. In cities, they are written in black letters on a white background, on the tracks in white letters on blue, and on express roads in white on green.

Service Marks

Service markers show where the nearest service station, gas station or recreation area is located. In the city, they are installed directly next to the object, and on the roads - from 400 m to several tens of kilometers. There are also signs indicating gas stations with sockets for electric cars.

Signs with additional information

Placards with additional information are called rectangular small white markers, which are installed in addition to the main character. For example, the sign "only for official vehicles" or the method of installing the vehicle along with the parking sign. They serve to clarify the sign with which they are installed. There are no types of violations for non-compliance with the plate, that is, a fine will be issued for non-compliance with the requirements of the main sign. However, it should be borne in mind that in some regions the traffic police will evacuate cars from parking lots if they are parked in violation of an additional plate.
