Leonid MerzlyakovÂ
Senior Legal Counsel
Luxembourg office
During my time in Montenegro, I was responsible for establishing legal procedures, and this often meant handling unexpected challenges on the spot due to the rapid employee relocations. Now, as I transition to Luxembourg, my primary focus will shift towards ensuring compliance with a myriad of regulations and regulatory demands throughout the Artec Group.
In addition to compliance, I also bear the responsibility of certifying certain of our products. This is a distinct and vital facet, given that different countries have varying requirements for product safety and performance. Proper certification opens up opportunities for us to expand our scanner sales.
A good lawyer has a well-developed ability to see the process from a perspective that other people do not. Our profession often offers guidance on harmonizing legal requirements with desired outcomes, allowing all parties to navigate without trouble. Merging legal prerequisites with the desired results is a daily task that I find gratifying in my work.
A recipe for a productive day consists of three essential ingredients. It begins with a leisurely nature walk before bedtime, followed by a restful night's sleep, and the morning kick-starts with a robust cup of coffee. Equally motivating is the camaraderie of friendly coworkers in the morning at the office.
Apart from global tasks it’s always important to keep in mind minor matters and steps. There's this theory of small deeds, about how the world cannot be changed with one pull of a big lever. We change the world every day, gradually improving certain processes. There is always a decent-sized pool of small tasks in our pipeline, which eventually forms the success and stability of the company day by day.
In my free time I like to go hiking. Montenegro offered numerous opportunities for me, and I think it will work in my new place as well. In general, I liked Montenegro not only for the nature, but also for the local friendly and open-minded people who are ready to help in any situation.
As for Luxembourg, what attracts me here is how people pay attention not only to efficiency, but also to the aesthetics of what they improve or do on a daily basis. And they also don't forget that life is first and foremost about enjoyment as well.
I would recommend watching the movie or reading the book "Catch 22" by Joseph Heller. It is one of the strongest works that is not long forgotten.
Dogs. There have always been dogs in my family, since then there has always been a place in my heart for a dog. .
2/ If you would like to pick up any famous person to have a drink in a bar, who would it be?
I would love to have a conversation with Pyotr Stolypin. Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Empire. Because this is the man who tried to change the Russian Empire and prevent the revolution. And, in general, if not for his tragic fate, perhaps our life would be completely different.
3/ If not working with legal issues, what would you like to do?
Either a sea captain, as I have always been attracted to the sea, or a professional rescuer.
