Christian Barandao-Bakele
Senior legal counsel,
Legal team
Luxembourg office
More than 1 year in Artec 3D
Before joining Artec 3D I used to work for about 7 years at an IT company in Luxembourg, and before that I was a barrister in 2 law firms (One in private law, the other in business law). In the law firm I was in charge of a lot of interesting cases, from murders cases to divorces but also from bankruptcies to shareholders litigations.
I can say that you can never be bored in a Legal team, because our work has a lot of interesting and various projects. They can be challenging but always fun to work with. The downside is when due to some urgent tasks, I am not able to deliver on time for other departments. I’m responsible for reviewing and validating various contracts and also draft some corporate documentation. In addition I give legal advice regarding risks that we might have about third parties, partners, companies. Also I prepare some policies and official letters and I'm in charge of litigation in front of the court.
There are so many interesting tasks at Artec. However, one of the biggest tasks that I have successfully completed for Artec 3D was the transfer of the company process to a different location. That simple change of address required a lot of preparation to make sure all legal documents are up to date and all administrative aspects are covered. It was a bit stressful, because of the deadlines to meet, but also tough negotiations with landlords, but in the end it turned out to be a good, important project that I am happy about.
I'm kinda into sport: I love playing basketball with my kids. My morning routine is to run about 5km. It gives me time to think about what to do and clears up my mind. I’m convinced that a sports mindset can lead you to many places and achieve your career goals in a corporate world.
Luxembourg is a very quiet and small country and it’s perfect for family life. It’s very cosmopolitan, though. I like that kind of melting pot where without traveling to other countries you can get acquainted with the cultural diversity of many different places.
I often play basketball with my kids and also a bit of football. They are 12, 7 and 4 years old ( the last one doesn’t play now, but he will!) and I’m so happy to spend every weekend with them.
I would not advise something to read or to watch, because to my opinion this is personal and everybody needs to figure out what they like based on their own sensitivity: for some people a movie can be bad, while for another it will be a good one. So instead my advice would be this one: beside work, try not to take everything too seriously. Have a moment to relax, to chill, because life is full of stress, and we need to have some fun moments to be able to deal with the daily stress we all go through.
Dogs all day!! Cats are too smart for my taste:)
2/ 2// If you would like to pick up any famous person to have a drink in a bar, who would it be?
It would be Michael Jordan for sure as a perfect example of reaching your dreams.
3/ If not legal, what would you like to do? I'd love to be in the communication/advertisement industry. I think it is a very exciting area to work in.
