This story was in winter 1714 in Finland. There was the Northern War between Russia and Sweden. The Russian army by command of prince Golitsin came to the back of the Sweden army and placed in position. Swedes attacked in this moment, but Russians could fight back. The generals have advised to Golitsin to attack the Sweden army instantly, but he ordered to hold the position and wait for at least two more attacks. And only after the third fought back attack the Russians made the counter attack and defeated Sweden without any troubles.
Prince Golitsin just waited for when the Sweden army would have tamped a snow.
