New generation Subaru BRZ upgrade 2.4 engine

At the end of July this year, Japanese automaker Subaru announced that the first-generation BRZ will cease production and roll off the assembly line.

It is not the rising price of the first-generation BRZ used car that keeps car fans awake at night, but Subaru has not disclosed any news about when its successor will arrive. Finally in this October, a BRZ preview image appeared on overseas social media. This "new" sports car will make its world premiere this fall.

The new Subaru BRZ is once again a sibling model with the Toyota 86. Before the Los Angeles Auto Show is cancelled due to the new crown epidemic, it is likely to be the first to appear on the starting list of the Los Angeles Auto Show. At present, there is only this preview picture for car fans to speculate. The picture shows the wheel design of the new BRZ and a bit of the body. The ten-spoke wheel seems to be borrowed from the design of the Toyota GR Yaris.

The new generation of Subaru BRZ may use the upgraded platform of the existing new Toyota 86/BRZ, which seems to mean that the new Subaru BRZ retains the same rear suspension as the first two, and the manufacturer may also make some adjustments to make it more sensitive .

This is all that Subaru is willing to disclose for the time being, without any information about the technical specifications. All along, there has been conflicting information about whether the BRZ and 86 will use turbocharging. The latest information shows that BRZ and 86 will insist on using naturally aspirated engines, equipped with Subaru FA24 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, power 217 horsepower, torque 240 N·m. This is slightly better than the current book data of the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine.

In terms of transmission system, I believe that the six-speed manual transmission will continue, and the automatic transmission will not be absent. Some time ago, Toyota said that its new 86 will drive better than the more advanced Supra, which means that BRZ should also provide a similar driving experience.

The new BRZ and 86 will use the updated version of the existing car-making platform, but there have been rumors that it will switch to Subaru's SGP or Toyota's TNGA architecture, but it has not been finalized.

The spy photos of the Toyota 86 were captured as early as August. The similar proportions and the completely redesigned front face look like a second update to the original model, rather than a new development. This style seems to be reflected in the BRZ. In other words, Subaru claims that its next BRZ is "new", but the result may not be too surprising.
