After Stephen died, many believers moved to other towns for their own safety but they continued to spread the word everywhere they went.

One day, an angel of the Lord appeared to Philip and told him to go south to the desert road running from Jerusalem to Gaza. Philip obeyed and on the road he saw a chariot. Inside was an important Ethiopian official in charge of the queen’s treasury who had gone to Jerusalem to worship and was returning home. The Holy Spirit told Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’

Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading aloud the words of the prophet Isaiah. (Isaiah 53:7-8).

And he asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

The man replied,” How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.

Through the help of the Holy Spirit, Philip was able explain the passage to the Ethiopian and told him the good news about Jesus.

The passage the Ethiopian was reading was about the Saviour God had promised to send. It read, ‘He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. ‘In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.’

‘Please tell me who the prophet is talking about,’ the Ethiopian said, ‘himself or someone else?’

‘The prophet Isaiah is talking about Jesus,’ Philip explained. Then he told him how Jesus had died and risen from the dead so anyone could have their sins forgiven. –

As they rode along, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?”

So he ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

As Philip came out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took him away and he appeared at Azotus (Ashdod) where he preached in all the towns as he travelled north to Caesarea. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for another week. I pray that the holy spirit would use me as a vessel and equip me to share the word of God to others.

After Paul; had healed the lame man, more people got to believe in Jesus Christ and the goodness was preached to many people. The believers cared for widows by giving them food. Some Jews from Greece complained that their widows were not given as much as the local widows. The 12 apostles gathered everyone together and decided to select men who were filled with the Holy Spirit to help.

Seven men were selected to handle the distribution alongside preaching, and one of those men, was Stephen. Stephen was a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.

But one day, some Jews didn’t like what he preached about,

so they lied about him saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses and even God”. This roused the people, the elders and the teachers of the religious law.

So they arrested him and brought him before the council

Before the council, Stephen’s face became as bright as an angel’s for the glory of the Lord was with him.

The court asked him to defend himself against the accusations that was placed on him and he did with the help of the Holy Spirit. But the people at the end were still not pleased with him, they were infuriated. They shook their fists at him in rage.

But Stephen full of the Holy Spirit gazed steadily at the heavens and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honour at the right hand of God.

He exclaimed this and the people out of great fury dragged him out the city and stoned him.

But even as they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Don’t charge them with this sin!

And with that he died.

Stephen was the first Christian martyr (A martyr is a person who is killed because of their religious or other beliefs)

Prayer

Lord Jesus thank you for another week. I pray that you will fill me with the holy spirit just as Stephen was. Help me to always stand for the truth of your word no matter the opposition. In Jesus Name AMEN!

One day, Paul and John went to the temple for an afternoon service. As they approached the temple, a man who had been lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate where he usually begs for money from people going to the temple.

When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, he called out to them to give him some money.

The lame man asking Peter and John for money.

But Peter and John asked the man to look at them intently, and he did, expecting to get some money from them.

But instead Paul said "I don't have any silver or gold for you, but I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!". Instantly he was healed. Peter held the hands of the lame man and helped him up. The man's feet and ankle was healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk!

The lame man is healed.

Then walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the temple with them.

The healed lame man rejoicing.

Everyone in the temple was amazed by this miracle. They came running to Peter and John.

Peter explained that it was not their own power that the man was healed but through faith in Jesus.

Faith in Jesus Christ can cause many miracles but we must not forget to thank and give Jesus Christ praise after.

Prayer

Lord please help me to always have faith in you. Please perform a miracle in my life and may I never forget to praise you for your goodness.

God promised to give His Spirit to His people in the last days that they may do wonders. He made this promise a long time ago.

Days after Jesus had ascended into heaven after rising from the dead, God fulfilled this promise. The followers of Jesus were all together. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. The Holy Spirit came as tongues of fire to them who waited for it in the Upper room as commanded and from then on, they begun to do marvellous things.

Other Jews who witnessed it were amazed and could not understand what was going on.

"They must be drunk of wine", they said.

This gift is available to us too. To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, one must repent of their sins turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. Then you can receive the Holy Ghost.

Be baptized in Jesus' name

This gift is to all who believe.

Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. We thank You for a new week. Please be with us and bless our families and friends. We love you Lord.

Last week, we learned that even as a baby, Jesus was recognised as the King God had promised to send. Jesus grew up to serve many people as their leader, teacher, healer, and Lord.

He performed many miracles. He suffered and died on the cross to pay for the sins of the world. Then, God raised Him from the dead.

After Jesus had died and resurrected, he appeared to the apostles from time to time. He preached about the kingdom of God to them.One day,he was eating with them and commanded them not to leave Jerusalem until the father sent them a promised gift, the Holy Spirit. He told them that John baptised with water but in just a few days they will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.

The apostles wondered when he would free Israel and restore the kingdom. Jesus replied that “it’s the father alone who has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ”

After saying this, he was taken up to into the clouds and they watched till they could no longer see him.

As they strained to him, suddenly two white robed men stood among them. They asked them, “Why are you still staring at the heavens? Jesus has been taken into heaven but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go”.

And after, the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount Olives, a distance of half a mile.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for giving us your son Jesus and your promised gift, the precious holy spirit. Help us to stay faithful till the second coming of Jesus.

After Jesus had been born in Bethlehem, Judea during the time of King Herod. Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.

'When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, 'Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him report to me, so that I may go and worship him'.

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

Upon arriving at the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod' they returned to their country by another route.

When they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. He told him to stay there until I tell you to leave, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. So he took the child and left for Egypt until King Herod died.

Prayer

Our Father thank you for the birth of your son Jesus. Thank you for saving him from the evil plan of King Herod. We pray that you would save us and our families from the plans of the enemy.

There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over the flocks at night on the day Christ was born. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.’

A host of angels appeared

After the angels had left, the shepherds hurried off to Bethlehem. They found Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in a manger. They spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, indeed had been a born.

They saw baby Jesus as the angel had said

Prayer
Our Father in heaven we are so much grateful for the birth of your son, Jesus Christ. Help us to celebrate this season without losing focus on the reason behind it.

When Mary was nearing the end of her pregnancy, a decree was declared by Ceaser Augustus that a census be taken in the entire Roman kingdom. At that time, Israel was still under the Roman empire. Each man was to go to their town.

A census was declared

Joseph had to leave Nazareth for Bethlehem since he was a part of the house of David. He took along with him a heavily pregnant Mary.

The journey to Bethlehem

When the couple reached Bethlehem, they could not find accommodation. They needed to find one quick, not only because they needed rest after their long journey but more importantly Mary was about to give birth.

No room available

They found a place, however, they had to share this space with some farm animals. There, Mary gave birth to her firstborn son. She covered him with cloths and in the absence of a crib, laid him on a manger.

Jesus is born

At last, the Saviour is born!

Dear Lord, Thank You for giving Your son to us that we may be saved. We're forever grateful for Your love. Please make this week successful and a blessed one.

After the angel had spoken to Mary, she got pregnant with the Holy Spirit although she was still a virgin. Joseph got alarmed when he heard that because he had been faithful to the Law and didn’t touch Mary.

So he secretly decided to break the engagement but the angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph in a dream

and said “'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins”. All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through a Prophet.

Last week, we learned about how God used Queen Esther to save his people. About 400 years later, an angel named Gabriel appeared to a young virgin named Mary who lived in Nazareth a town in Galilee.

An Angel appeared to Mary

She was scared of the angel but he told her not to be afraid. He told her that she would conceive and give birth to a son and he shall be named Jesus.

She was terrified

He will be very great and will be Son of the Most High and he will reign over Israel forever. His kingdom will never end.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will never end.

Mary was overwhelmed because she was a virgin and engaged to Joseph but obeyed the word of God.
