Acclimatise is a well-established UK hire company headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent. Founded in 2005 by the current senior management team, the business is focused on the delivery of specialist HVAC solutions to a variety of customers across multiple sectors within the UK.

The acquisition will complement Cross Rental Services’ sizeable and rapidly growing UK and Irish hire businesses, with the Acclimatise team bringing a wealth of experience to further strengthen Cross’ position as one of the largest specialist chiller, boiler, heating and air conditioning companies in the UK and Irish market.

For the colleagues and customers of Cross Rental Services and Acclimatise, this means business as usual; the highest level of engineering, service and solution provision, with the benefits that come with an increased capacity to deliver. The combination of Cross Rental Services and Acclimatise’s skilled teams and sizeable hire fleet, supported by a large, nationwide infrastructure, will enable the business to continue to deliver first class 24/7/365 service to existing and new customers across the UK and Ireland.

The founders of Acclimatise, Clare Harrison and Matthew Venables, have developed and built a strong and very well-respected business. Following a short handover period, Clare and Matt will be retiring to take a much-deserved rest following many years of delivering first class service to the business’s well established client base. So, what is a Mental Health First Aider? In general, the role of a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace is to be a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress.

This interaction could range from having an initial conversation through to supporting the person to get appropriate help. As well as in a crisis, Mental Health First Aiders are valuable in providing early intervention help for someone who may be developing a mental health issue.

MHFA

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.

In the same way as learning physical first aid, MHFA teaches people how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health and feel confident to guide someone to appropriate support. Embedding MHFA training within any organisation or community also encourages people to talk more freely about mental health issues.

Mental Health First Aiders are not trained to be therapists or psychiatrists, but they can offer initial support through non-judgemental listening and guidance.

This one-day interactive course has been developed by the CITB for managers and supervisors with the aim of providing candidates with an introduction to the various environmental issues that pertain to working on construction sites.

The SEATS course is intended for staff with managerial or supervisory responsibilities on a construction site, such as site managers, site supervisors, site agents, site foreman, as well as those with design or purchasing responsibilities.

It is designed to meet the basic environmental knowledge that the various elements of the sub-contract chain are required to prove awareness of to major contractors. The SEATS course covers the environmental aspects of the new HS&E touch screen test and will bring participants’ environmental and sustainability knowledge up to date by giving a thorough overview of the subject, the latest relevant UK legislation and established industry best practice.

It will enable candidates to identify, control and minimise the environmental impacts of the work they are undertaking and, where possible and appropriate, identify environmental improvement opportunities. 

This course covers:

• The significance and importance of the environment
• A basic understanding of Environmental Management Systems
• Site waste management
• Prevention of pollution and water management
• Use of energy and resources
• Being a responsible contractor as well as a good neighbour - including statutory nuisance, communications, archaeology and heritage

Delegates who successfully completes this SEATS course will receive an accredited CITB Site Safety Plus certificate for Site Environmental Awareness.

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

Buying a decent pair of jodhpurs is important. Whether you are serious about your riding, or you just go for a hack in your local area whenever you get a chance, jodhpurs serve a valuable purpose and will only enhance your riding life.

So, make sure you take your time to consider your options, talk to friends who ride, talk to experts at your local or favourite online equestrian clothing store, and make an informed decision before buying. Also, it makes sense to have an idea of your budget before you start your search.

Jodhpurs are designed specifically for riders to enhance their riding experience. There are a number of both practical and stylistic features that can improve your ride, from high-wicking fabrics to silicone printed patches.

Why wear jodhpurs?

Certainly, you can wear jeans, leggings or any other everyday trousers whilst riding, however, jodhpurs (and breeches) are designed specifically for horse riding, with the primary purpose of maximising comfort.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, so it stands to reason that ladies’ jodhpurs are available to fit numerous body shapes, and they have a number of extra features in order to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible while riding.

Most jodhpurs are designed with a stretch element, meaning Lycra, Spandex, or some other elasticated fibre has been incorporated into construction of the fabric. This ensures that your jodhpurs will ‘hug’ your body and move with you as you ride, maximising comfort and whilst retaining a large range of movement.

I bought some jodhpurs but they’re not comfortable

If you are new to riding and are struggling to get comfortable in your first pair of jodhpurs, then you could well be simply wearing the wrong size, or perhaps the design you went for isn’t cut to suit your body type.

When it comes to shopping for jodhpurs, which are by their very nature tight-fitting, don’t be afraid to shop around and consider a number of products from a number of different brands. Because of their close-fitting style, there’s potential for them maximising discomfort as well as comfort if you don’t get the right shape and fit!

Consider your knees!

The addition of knee patches can be useful for those whose current jodhpurs get worn around the knees, or require extra stability in the saddle. The knee must be flexible and non-restrictive, so buying a pair of jodhpurs with knee pads sewn in is a good idea. Some knee pads will be made with the same fabric, while others will be made from a contrasting material such as suede, or even printed with silicone to enhance your grip while you’re in the saddle.

Style vs functionality

You can have your cake and eat it! When it comes to riding attire, adding extra comfort needn’t come at the expense of your own unique style. There’s no end to the number of aesthetic features that can make you stand out from the crowd, from two-tone designs to embroidered detailing. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a popular misconception that jodhpurs are unflattering, as now there’s such a huge range on offer that anyone can find a style to suit and flatter their figure.

FINAL NOTE: whilst It is true that dark jodhpurs and breeches are particularly good at hiding any stains that come along with owning horses, if you are competing then you will want to make sure that you wear the correct colour for your discipline.
