For the better part of a decade, Cairo-based producer Mostafa Onsy has been the architect of the cerebral. His work, defined by intricate, wired sound design and alien dub, demanded a specific, deep-head focus from its dedicated listeners.

Baba Fen is something else entirely: a sharp turn from the complicated toward the direct and immediate. Call it pop-adjacent, if you squint—but only because density has been traded for a different kind of clarity.

Rooted in the minimal logic of trap, the record relies on heavy 808s, sparse arrangements, auto-tuned vocals, and a groove that hits without clutter. It nods to the lineage of Southside and Chasethemoney, yet reroutes that minimalism through a restless, cross-border sensibility. Remotely assembled between Cairo and Haifa with artists Fara7, Bleng, and Illfeel, the project was shaped by a loose, almost accidental workflow—vocals recorded and returned within hours, fueled by basic tools, slow internet, and whatever energy was available in the moment. This first-take urgency becomes the defining character.

From here, Baba Fen moves without a fixed map. While anchored in trap, the sound frequently drifts into Egyptian 90s pop, Mahraganat, and crystalline, chiptune-like melodies, refusing to settle into any one single mode of expression.

Mastered by Rashad Becker, the final result maintains a striking balance between its spontaneous origins and a formidable sonic weight. It captures a producer venturing beyond established boundaries, trading complexity for contact and proving that a stripped-back approach can often hit the hardest.

“Les petits volcans” is one of many albums by rydglek, and the central theme of this new release is a sensual reinterpretation of “Post-rain”, once cold and harsh, now experienced from within. It frames the “post-rain” state as a quiet return to light.
Inspired by the early works of Tori Amos and the Bristol trip-hop scene, particularly the album Nearly God by the widely known Tricky, the record is filled with a sense of new life, as if the listener involuntarily becomes a witness to the blooming and revival of a once empty and cold city.
In contrast to rydglek’s “winter” works “Entrails” and “Post-rain”, the album continues the “summer” line of “flesh to flesh” and “True nature”, which is a movement from isolation to embodiment, from coldness to life.

Four years after his debut on the label as Acid_Lab with the stunning “Phoenix EP”, which also launched the label in the scene, we now present you "Ahmad & Kodama", a collaboration between two sides of the same face, delivering a whole new approach with this “Tangent EP”.

This release travels between heavy hypnotic drum patterns and dark atmospheres, and eerie spaces and volatile feelings, bringing back the 'Autonomic' nostalgia.

The next release on katharsis is the compilation “changes”, the label’s 10th V/A-release, bringing together 30 tracks from artists across the label and beyond. From close collaborators to new encounters, it traces connections between shifting contexts and perspectives, like a body breaking out of its shell, wings still wet and unsteady.

Working from a shared but open theme, the compilation centres around different experiences of change. Not as a single direction, but as something unfolding in parallel, through new chapters, emerging feelings, and forms shifting over time. The contributions reflect this in different ways, including the more uncertain, unresolved, or uncomfortable states that come with it, where things stall, harden, or spill over.

Sonically, the compilation moves across a wide spectrum, with some tracks driven more by physicality and forward motion, while others unfold through more abstract, textural zones. In between, much of the material unfolds in melodic, open states, guided by an experimental sensibility, though at times allowing more direct gestures to take shape.

Despite these differences, a shared sensitivity runs through the release. The tracks feel connected less by genre than by their emotional weight and their willingness to let ideas remain open. A collection of pieces that holds onto movement and instability, structures transforming like a body in constant metamorphosis, continuing to shift even after it seems to settle.
