The ceremony was held outside of Pentillie Castle in their amazing courtyard overlooking the River Tamar. It was held inside a marquee with open sides and back. Light is so important and having plenty of it made the ceremony a breeze.

The evening light was beautiful too. There were some trees tucked around the back of Pentillie Castle and provided the most amazing backdrop for some golden hour wedding pictures.

This is a large area that I’m just going to touch on very briefly.

You SHOULD have signed some form of contract/booking form with your wedding supplier for them to reserve your wedding date in their calendar.

Those terms are what will determine your suppliers handling of your deposit.

If you didn’t sign any form of contract or booking form then you have entered into a grey area and may need to seek outside counsel.

Some suppliers may be in a position to return your deposit as a sign of ‘goodwill’. This would more than likely go against their terms and conditions as 95% of the time your deposit would be lost.

Some suppliers may retain your deposit as that is what their terms and conditions state.

For some suppliers returning a number of deposits may mean that they have to close down. It could cripple their business so badly that they cannot continue to operate.

As I stated at the beginning of this article you should consult your wedding insurance company and if need be any other outside council.

This is why it is paramount to speak with your suppliers and ask the questions and if you are considering postponing your wedding date think about it sooner rather than later.

3. Speak to Your Guests

Ok fear not though. Your wedding day will come and it WILL be amazing.

People will party harder, love stronger and hug with sincere intensity.

Consider each and everyone of your wedding guests and whether they’ll be able to make your current scheduled wedding date and your new one.

Your wedding as you initially planned can’t happen without your guests so think of them during this process.

Some of your guests may be travelling from abroad. Some countries are only just starting to lockdown or seeing an early number of cases.

Other guests may be travelling from hard hit areas and may be facing financial and personal loss.

A wedding is a cause for celebration. Give people time.

Postponing your wedding date should give your wedding guests time to re-evaluate and get to the other side of the Coronavirus.

If You’re Going to Stick with Your Original Wedding Date…

If your wedding is currently planned for September 2020 onwards then all of the above is still relevant but here are a few other things to think about too.

1. Expect a Lower Guest Count

If you’re going to go ahead with your original date then I think it’s only reasonable to expect a lower guest attendance.

Some social restrictions may well be in place at this point and you may have to consider postponing nearer your wedding date.

Guests travelling from overseas may not be able to attend as travel restrictions may well still be in place.

2. Consider sending information to your guests.

This could be an email, setting up a FB page, a WhatsApp Group or a good old fashioned letter.

Keep in touch with your guests, reassure them that you plan to go ahead with your big day but perhaps with some small changes.

Talk about extra hygiene precautions, travel arrangements, additional accommodation whatever is necessary to reassure your guests of their health and safety.

3. Think about a Livestream

A livestream is a really easy way to include some of those guests who may be unable to attend your wedding day.

There are many options ranging from super easy and inexpensive to pro level livestream so talk to some who may be able to help you with this.

Preparations

Talie started by getting ready at The Wykenham Arms.

The room was such a quaint little space full to the brim with bridesmaids.

I had to go through this amazing little restaurant to the back where they have a wonderfully tucked away little cottage.

Hair and make up was organised by the super talented Sarah Elizabeth Abbott and Victoria Oke.

When Talie’s flowers arrived from Jenni Bloom everyone instantly loved the beautiful December colours.

I made sure I got a cool shot of them.

Luke was getting ready just down the road where my legendary second shooter Mr Ed Bray was capturing all the groom preps.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was to take place at The Hospital of St Cross in Winchester. This church is just breathtaking.

The court yard and entrance is just incredible, it just immediately transports you back in time.

The church itself is stunning with beautiful archways and delicate stain glass windows.

As a wedding videographer having a beautiful setting like this is just an absolute dream.

After Luke and Talie had tied the knot they left for Avington Park in a gorgeous red car borrowed from an old friend of the family.

The Reception

At the reception everyone was greeted by a quartet and a nice glass of warm mulled wine. Everyone was chatting and catching up.

It was then time for us to go and get some lovely couple shots around the grounds of Avington Park.

Luke and Talie had opted to book me for just their wedding videography and had booked the very talented Stephen Duncan as their wedding photographer.

Off we went and explored some awesome backdrops Avington has to offer including a stunning row of trees, a bridge and a river!

The Speeches

Defying convention (just as one should do on your wedding day) Talie made a speech along with her maid of honour Farah, her Dad, Luke, Luke’s brother and a best man.

Half of the best man’s speech was delivered by a groomsman as the original best man was having a baby!

I’m shooting Alex & James’ wedding in November this year but they wanted to meet up before and get in front of the camera before the big day. So, we emailed back and forth a few locations and we decided on Tarr Steps, Devon. This very near to where James grew up and also where they brought their Dog, Paddy soon after they had got him.

We started off with the steps themselves and then went on a good walk round the woods finding some delicious pockets of light just peaking through the trees. Alex & James also bought along their dogs Max & Paddy for the adventure, and they absolutely nailed it!

We started the session at about 6:30pm which gave us plenty of time as sunset wasn’t until 9:32 (to be precise!). We wandered around the woods and then headed up to the top of the hill to capture some of that golden loveliness.

As we looked out across the fields on Exmoor, we couldn’t help but be reminded of the gorgeous colours of the Lion King. Natuarally James decided to lift up Paddy just like the iconic scene. You’ve got to have a laugh haven’t you?
