Management is a series of processes, the main ones being planning, budgeting, organizing, recruiting, controlling, and problem-solving. Management is primarily concerned with administration and ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. Context of management is actually resources, results and goals. The manager is a function. It is just a job or position.

Leadership, on the other hand, is a series of processes that involve creating a vision of the future, a strategy for achieving it, communicating that vision to others in a way that they will believe. And then creating an environment that motivates and inspires those people to make that vision a reality. I can say that leadership is a way of life, it is a method of thinking and acting.

Leadership vs Management why they should go hand in hand?

In fact, leadership and management in a company are two separate, complementary systems of action. Each has its own function and characteristic activities. To succeed in today's increasingly complex and rapidly changing business world, both must be mastered. Leadership serves to complement management, not replace it. If an organization has strong management without leadership, the result can be the reliable accomplishment of the wrong things. If an organization has strong leadership without management, the result can be inconsistent performance. If there is no leadership there is also no management.

Leadership vs Management Differences

Leaders and managers are different by lots of factors. Leaders are willing to take a risk, while managers will avoid this. Leaders are willing to ask questions, while managers will give you just direction on how to solve a problem. Management signifies formal power with delegated accountability, whereas leadership is the capacity to influence people's activities or conduct. The manager supervises and solves issues, whereas the leader motivates people. Leaders put people first, but managers put goals first because they are paying for achieving goals. But the most important difference, as for me, is that employees follow the leader and are guided by him and believe in him, while managers have just the subordinates.

Overall, I can say that manager is more about your job description, while leadership is more about your personality.

Leadership style is a way, a system of methods of influence of the manager on his subordinates. One of the most important factors in the effective work of the organization, the full realization of the potential of people and the team.

In this article, I want to talk about the democratic leadership style. Due to the fact that I believe that this is the most effective leadership style through which people can achieve more.

The leader shares information with his subordinates, regularly informing them of the company's current affairs, development prospects, and upcoming tasks. Employees actively participate in decision making and take a significant share of responsibility. Leader delegate some authority to subordinates, including the independent solution of minor tasks without approval from above. Employees are motivated by bonuses, encouragement and praise, and only with rare exceptions are punishments and fines. If the team fails to achieve results, the manager is not looking for the culprits but for the cause of the failure. Such reasons may be excessive demands, unspecific task setting, lack of knowledge of the subordinates. This tactic helps to create an atmosphere of trust, equality and support in the team, removes a significant part of the burden from the leader and expands opportunities to find new strategic ways. Manager-democrat usually takes on more than each individual member of the team. Seeing the passion and high level of responsibility of the head, subordinates try to keep up with him. Thanks to this style, the employee can always feel free to approach the leader and ask him questions. In such team, there will always be respect, understanding and friendly support. I reckon that the most important thing in this leadership style is that when new tasks or problems arise, the leader can use the knowledge of the whole team.

"In short, there are certain fundamental requisites for wise and resolute democratic leadership. It must build on hope, not on fear; on honesty, not on falsehood; on justice, not on injustice; on public tranquillity, not on violence; on freedom, not on enslavement." - Edmund Ezra Day

Before answering myself, what makes me a leader, I want to delve into the concept of leadership itself and what it does. Usually, leaders are enterprising, creative and extraordinary people who are the engines of the development process. These are people who with the help of their innate and acquired traits have achieved success.

What is my personal trait and what sets me apart from the rest of the world? Firstly, I have the ability to make responsible and difficult decisions, the willingness to take due responsibility for them. Secondly, I am able to recognize my mistakes. I always try to find what was my problem and how it can be changed in a good way. Thirdly, I like to motivate people, to make people's eyes sparkle after looking at me and my experience. Also, I will always go forward, despite any obstacles that fate throws at me. It's survival of the fittest, isn't it? It confirms a principle I've been living by for years, "Stay hungry, stay foolish" which explains that you should never be content, you have to push yourself. You must do the impossible. After all, only crazy people survive in this harsh world.

When I first began my journey, I was very concerned about whether I was not devoting enough time to personal growth? How much time should I devote to this or that practice, ideally? Is it essential to read, and how often? It turned out to be necessary. Because reading is the cornerstone of personal effectiveness, today I will tell you how much time you need to read a day for self-development to have an effect, and I will share how and how much I read.

Warren Buffett, one of the most successful businessmen in the world, describes his day in this way:

"I just sit in the office and read all day."

He advises everyone to read as much as possible, and that is indeed a worthy goal. So how can you make reading a regular habit?

First of all, you need to read all the time.

Read at least 1 hour a day on weekdays and more during weekends and holidays. Make time for reading in your schedule. Don't make excuses for being too tired or too busy.

Read all the time means to turn the pages of a book when you are:

eating

on the bus

feeding a baby

bored at work

sitting at the hospital

And the most important: read while other people are watching the news on TV or checking Facebook or Instagram for the 250th time of the day.

If you can do that, you can easily read 100 books in a year. Most people read about 50 pages in an hour. So if you read 10 hours a week, you will read 26,000 pages in a year. Let's assume that the average book has 250 pages. Simple arithmetic: that means you can read 104 books in a year. What's more, you can even take a two-week break, and then you get exactly 100.

That's a good result and well worth the time. What you can't say about reading news on social media.

Secondly, you need to keep your attention focused.

You can read fast, and you can read a lot. A combination of these two skills is a great way to get used to reading and not get bored, but at the same time, each of these skills is valuable on its own.

In fact, for many people, it's not just important to read a book from beginning to end; it's more important to them to read the story itself. The speed of reading doesn't matter that much if you are reading for pleasure.

From this point of view, wanting to read more means having more time to read and getting more information in general: from books, magazines, blog articles, and so on.

List of books from Anastasiia Shapoval

Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen by Serena Valentino. (It is a book for those who want to break the ice while reading)

Whatcha Gonna Do with That Duck? by Seth Godin

Sapiens – A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen. R. Covey

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

Business @ The speed of thought by Bill Gates

The world is flat by Thomas Friedman

Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy

What to remember?

The quantity of reading is not as important as the quality of the material that is understood.

If you discuss, think about, and put read information into practice, new connections are formed in the brain.

The more cognitive activity, the lower the probability of age-related brain disorders.

If the text is hard to read, listen to the audiobook.

Unlike viewing video content, reading activates the imagination.

Famous individuals - businessmen, inventors - read at least one book a week.

Reading is a tool for self-development. If you have a goal, reading will help you achieve it.

Overall, I can say that you need to read as much as you can, but don't forget the most important thing: putting what you learn into practice. If you spend a lot of time reading books, make sure it gives you something in return.
