A centralized clock system in the ATC is to set the time standard according to the international time reference derived from the GPS (Global Positioning System). It's also used to synchronize between all the elements the time signal as well as to set and display standard times for control reference

BATCC (Backup Air Traffic Control Center)

In the event of a serious fire or hazardous incident which render the ATC complex not able to perform it's original functions , normal Air Traffic control services will be severely disrupted. To maintain the continuous ATC service the backup air traffic control complex equipped with all essential backup ATC facilities will be activated. These backup facility can support about 30% of the air traffic control handling capacity to maintain a safe and orderly flow of air traffic.

Different types of Controllers in ATC

Tower Controllers direct the movement of vehicles on the runway(s) and taxiways

They Check flight plans, give pilots a clearance for takeoff and landing and direct the movement of other aircraft on the runway and other parts of the airport.Tower controllers are also suppose to ensure that all the lights installed in the runways and taxiways are functional.most of them work from the control tower as they generally must be able to see the traffic they control.

Approach and Departure Controllers ensures that the aircraft travelling within an airspace maintain minimum separation for air safety.

they give clearance to the aircraft to enter controlled airspace and handover the control of the aircraft to en route controllers.

they use RADAR to monitor flight paths and work in the building known as terminal radar approach control centers (TRACKON) they also provide information to pilots regarding weather conditions and critical notices

En route controller monitor aircraft once they leaves an airports airspace they work at air route traffic control centers located throughout the country which are typically not located at airports.

each center is assigned an airspace based on the geography and altitude of the area in which it is located

As an airplane approaches through and flies through a centres airspace en route controllers guide the airplane along it's route they must adjust the flight path of the aircraft for safety and collision avoidance. As an airplane goes along it's route, en route controllers hand off to the next control center, Approach control or tower control along the path as needed

Air traffic controllers typically do the following

they issue landing and takeoff instructions to the pilot

monitor and direct the movement of aircraft on the ground and in the air using RADAR computers and visual references

manage communications - by transferring control of departing flights to traffic control centers and accepting control of flights

provide information to pilots such as weather updates, runway in use, runway closure and other critical information

Alert airport response staff in the event of an airport emergency

they use Styrofoam to suppress the fire

Air Traffic controllers primary concern is safety. they manage the flow of the aircraft into and the out of the airport airspace guide pilots during takeoff and landing and monitor aircraft as they travel through the skies.

Controllers usually manage multiple aircraft at the same time and must make quick decisions to ensure the safety of the aircraft.Ex:A controller may direct one aircraft on it's landing approach while providing another aircraft with weather information

Hijacking is a problem of recent origin faced by the airlines anyone who has a personal grievance against a government finds it convenient to hijack a plane to attract worldwide attention.

The first recorded aircraft hijacking took place in 1931.When the aircraft was ceased after it landed in an aerodrome in Peru by armed rebels after an unsuccessful attempt to throw the Lima government and demanded to flown to Chile.

Hijacking became a major problem in mid 60's. When the terrorists group used it as a weapon for international blackmailing. The International community forced ICAO to take appropriate action. So ICAO imposed penalties for offences committed onboard of an aircraft and powers of the commander of the contracting states

ICJ - International Court Of Justice.

In some countries they do keep sky marshals or air marshal in mufti dress with concealed weapons onboard of the aircraft.

In the Tokyo convention in 1963 in Japan, the convention provided the contracting states in which the hijacked aircraft lands shall ensure restoration of the control of the aircraft to lawful commander and allow the passengers and cargo including aircraft to proceed to their known destination as soon as possible.

Trivandrum Airport

The Airport authority of India was forced to reduce the runway of the international airport from 3398 m to 3373 m as the state provided only 37 cents of land of the vallakkadavu side for creating the mandatory RESA

PTT = Parallel Taxi Track

The occupancy of the aircraft on the runway is for longer duration because there is no PTT.

Noise abatement procedure

This is generally done to avoid the noise pollution by the aircraft while flying over a populated area.this is achieved by a faster takeoff followed by idle run till the aircraft has survived the populated area and then continuing it's normal flight.

ROE

The IATA ROE provides the currency ROE used by the airline industry for fare/rate construction.

The data can be used for the combination and construction of local currency fares.

The IATA exchange rates are used to perform interline invoicing and settlement between airlines. These are world currencies published and monitored against three base currencies EURO,GBP and USD These rates are provided by IATA every month.

IATA Billing and settlement plan (BSP)

A BSP is the central point through which data and funds flow between travel agents and airlines.Instead of every agent having an individual relationship with every airline, all of the information is consolidated through the BSP

Agents make one single payment to the BSP(remittance) covering sales on all BSP airlines. The BSP makes one consolidated payment to each airline, covering sales made by all agents in the country/region

Agents are provided with a range of electronic ticket numbers to be used for sales on any airline

BSP working process for Agents

1. Preparation to sell on behalf of airlines. - before an agent can begin selling on behalf of airlines, the following must take place

A range of electronic ticket numbers are assigned to the agent

the airline assigns ticketing authority to the agent to allow the issue of E-TKT

2. Reporting by agents the agent reports all sales and refunds at the end of the reporting period. This is done electronically through BSP link. All transactions are forwarded to a central BSP data processing center or DPC.

Processing By BSP

The data processing center

Captures the tickets and refunds information from data files that have been transmitted by the GDS or the other automatic system like the BSP link.

Processes all relevant data and produce an agents billing analysis for each agent. This analysis is compiled from the information of each billing period.

It forwards the statement of sales made by each agent to each BSP airline.

Monitors ETKT and provide continuous stock whenever necessary.

Payment

The agent makes just one payment covering all the BSP transactions for that billing period for all BSP airlines.

The BSP preffered method of payment is by direct debit

Follow up

The accounting department of each airline audits the incoming data and addresses the debit/credit transactions to agents as necessary.
