«I have sent to you a poem by Rudyard Kipling, I'm sure that you know the poem. The poem is called «If», and you find the original, and you'll find via a number of Ukrainian translations, all this poem. And your task for tomorrow will be. First of all, to recall. Just the poem itself, the original to find or to recall if you know it. Some information about the author of the poem Rudyard Kipling, but here we are not interested in his biography, as such, right, but we are interested only in those facts which you have immediate bearing on the message or the style, right, and on his ideal style. So he's the school literary school he belongs to his style, and only those facts which are relevant, and then you are to read through the poem itself, it should be close reading, and you should actually formulate for yourself, the message, as you see it interpreted right interpret the message. What is it about what is it written for what is the influence which he thought to exert on the reader, and then to analyze what are the linguistic stylistic instruments so is used in order to encode this message into the text. What stylistic things should be retained in translation should not be sacrificed should not be lost in translation in your understanding. And then after that, you start to analyze the translations themselves, and to give your appraisal, whether you consider them to be faithful, or not faithful and why they are faithful and why they are not faithful in your way of thinking.» (с) Ms. Dubenko
