Meeting of the Russian Ambassador to Botswana with the SADC Executive Secretary

On October 13, Russian Ambassador A.V. Kemarsky visited E. Magosi, Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The Director of the SADC Policy, Defense and Security Authority Zh. Cardoso.

During the meeting, in the context of preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit, a mutual opinion was expressed on the importance of a joint assessment of the state of relations between Russia and SADC in order to identify the most relevant areas of cooperation in the current global instability and economic crisis. Particular attention is paid to the practical implementation of the Memoranda of Understanding signed in 2018 between the Government of the Russian Federation and SADC on the basics of mutual relations and cooperation in the field of military-technical cooperation.

Prospects for cooperation in the field of security and the fight against terrorism were also touched upon. The necessity of developing ties in this direction was noted, taking into account the efforts made by the Community to stabilize the situation in northern Mozambique and in the eastern regions of the DRC, as well as the possible fall of Western weapons from Ukraine at the disposal of extremist groups operating there.
