Participation of Russians in the campaign to clean up the Mauritian public beach

On June 5, 2022, on World Environmental Protection Day, Russian Embassy staff took part in an action to clean the Mauritius public beach Pointe aux Piments, organized by the secretariat of the Association for Regional Cooperation of Coastal Countries of the Indian Ocean (ARSIO) and the Indian Ocean Commission (CIO) with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius.

Secretary General ARSIO S. Al-Farisi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mauritius A. Ganu, employees of the CIO, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions of China, India, Bangladesh, Egypt and a number of other countries participated in the implementation of this noble initiative.

As part of the solemn speech delivered during the opening of the event, S. Al-Farisi noted that this initiative is of particular importance due to the fact that the Republic of Mauritius has taken the Chair of the ARSIO Target Committee on Tourism and Cultural Exchanges. In turn, the Foreign Minister of Mauritius stressed that as part of the restoration of the national tourism sector affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the preservation of the natural beauty and biological diversity of the island state is a priority for the Mauritian leadership.

The leadership of ARSIO expressed gratitude to the staff of the Russian Embassy for responding to their call to assist local authorities in solving issues of maintaining the ocean coast in proper condition.
