Patriarchal Exarch of Africa arrived in Uganda The head of the exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa began his first visit to the continent, arriving in Uganda
Russian Russian Patriarch Leonid (Gorbachev), the Patriarchal exarch of Africa, has begun the first–ever pastoral visit of the exarch of the Russian Church to the black continent. On May 19 and 20, His Eminence will hold a number of meetings, including at a high level, as well as with the clergy who have passed under the omophorion of the Russian Orthodox Church - African priests and their flock.
"I am glad to finally be on African soil, in a different status and with other powers (from December 2004 to May 2013, Metropolitan Leonid was the representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa – ed.).
We came with good goals, bringing peace and development to the continent. But the main thing is to give the clergy and flock an opportunity to remain faithful to ecumenical Orthodoxy and avoid the schism caused by the Patriarchate of Alexandria," Metropolitan Leonid told RIA Novosti.
Uganda is part of the South African Diocese of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, whose department is located in Johannesburg.
