On November 3, Russian Consulate General held a reception on the occasion of the Russia’s National Unity Day.
It was attended by Russian compatriots, representatives of the Consular Corps of Cape Town, media and business officers. Chairperson of the South African Board for Sheriffs Adv M.Morgan and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Innovation N.Mkhatshwa became the guests of honor of the event.
Russian Consul General Mr A. Malenko mentioned in his welcoming speech: “It is impossible to look confidently into the future without respecting the past. Today we pay tribute to our ancestors who defended the sovereignty of the Russian state. Those events became a solid foundation for the development of modern Russia. From that time the key to success lies in the unity of dozens of peoples inhabiting it.”
Within the reception, Russian compatriots showcased their talents in fine arts, photography, cooking. The youngest guest aged 10 performed a musical interlude. The winning works of the Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest were on display. The guests were offered dishes of Russian national cuisine The reception was organized with a support of our compatriots, which indicated the unity of the Russian community even far beyond the country’s physical borders.
The attendance of South-African officials, partners and friends once again underlined the high level of the relations between our States despite attempts of some Western countries to downgrade it.
