On the meeting of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara S. de Mistura

On October 7, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara S. de Mistura in Moscow.

During the conversation, the state and prospects of the Western Sahara settlement process were discussed. S. de Mistura shared his assessments of the results of his visit to Algeria and Morocco, and gave an analysis of the current situation in this region.

The Russian side stressed the importance of achieving a just, long-term and mutually acceptable solution to the Western Sahara problem on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The stabilizing role of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara and the need to maintain interaction with it by the parties to the conflict were noted.

On October 6, Deputy Minister S.V.Vershinin held separate detailed consultations with S. de Mixtura on all aspects of the Western Sahara settlement in the light of the upcoming discussion of this subject in the UN Security Council.
