How ZetaChain Works
When it comes to interacting with multiple blockchains, one of the common approaches to developing decentralized applications (DApp) is to create a separate application for each chain. But it can be quite impractical to maintain, especially as the number of actively used blockchains increases.
ZetaChain offers application developers to create a single "omnichannel" application. The diagram below shows an example of what this might look like.
According to one of the leading participants of the project, such a model allows you to create a world in which "you deploy a smart contract on ZetaChain, and then it works on all networks, so that the application developer does not need to deploy DApp on Ethereum, Polygon and Solana. You can use liquidity on all connected networks - we act as a metalayer."
The general idea is that instead of deploying DApp and accompanying smart contracts on each network, you add some additional features to the existing smart contract, thanks to which ZetaChain unlocks the functionality that they call "omnichain-DApp" (odApp).
What will it give to users and developers?

Omnichannel smart contracts significantly reduce overhead costs. It becomes possible to combine the simplicity of development on Ethereum with access to assets on any network. In addition, the creator needs to manage only one smart contract, and not deploy and maintain contracts in all the networks that he needs. - Reduction of commissions
Users reduce gas costs, because one smart contract, which is controlled by the developer and used for transactions, manages several of its own tokens. - Better and safer user experience
Instead of waiting for different messages to pass and synchronize between separate networks, the transaction logic on ZetaChain occurs atomically.
Since users and developers can move between different networks, it becomes possible to maximize the benefits of any blockchain: payments, DeFi (decentralized finance), liquidity, games, NFT, security, privacy, and so on.
In summary, we can say that ZetaChain is designed as a decentralized cross-chain smart contract platform.
ZetaChain's vision is to become a public computer on all major blockchains, on top of which it will be possible to easily create decentralized cross-chain applications. in the form of public, trustless and persistent smart contracts.
The ZetaChain architecture consists of a distributed network of nodes, often called validators. Validators act as decentralized observers who can reach consensus on the relevant external states and events, and can also update the external state of the network by signing a distributed key.
ZetaChain performs these functions in a decentralized, transparent and efficient manner. Each validator contains a ZetaCore and a ZetaClient. ZetaCore is responsible for the production of the blockchain and the maintenance of a replicated state machine. ZetaClient is responsible for monitoring events in external networks and signs outgoing transactions. ZetaCore and ZetaClient are combined together and managed by node operators. Anyone can become a node operator to participate in the validation procedure, provided that a sufficient number of assets are embedded in the stake.
Bitcoin Support
With the help of omnichannel smart contracts and ZRC-20, developers can now deploy contracts in ZetaChain that control Bitcoin. In other words, ZetaChain supports Bitcoin smart contracts, as well as smart contracts that manage not only Bitcoin, but also Bitcoin along with assets and data from other networks. Now you can trade and use Bitcoin with any assets from the world of DeFi without "wrapping".
And this, in turn, may be of interest to financial services companies, where you have a smart contract on a single blockchain that is able to control a certain amount of Bitcoin.
Current status of the project
At the moment (January 2023), a test network has been launched and is working, in which it is possible to test the operation of a Swap exchanger between different test networks.
For testing the exchanger, you will be awarded ZP (ZETA Points), which, quite possibly, will be rewarded after the official launch of the project.
Currently, Zeta Labs is crowding launched with support for Polygon Mumbai, Ethereum Goerli, BSC Testnet and Bitcoin Testnet.
Bitcoin Testnet was added last. Right now, in the test network, it is already possible to exchange BTC for other assets from supported decentralized networks (Etherium, Poligon, BSC) using XDefi wallet.
During the test, you will receive ZetaPoints points, which will be issued for interacting with the protocol and attracting other testnet participants.
They encourage weekly testing with Zeta Labs and the participation of new users. The system encourages product/protocol feedback and bug reports to help the team update the network regularly. The structure of earning ZETA points is as follows:
7000 ZP - for one exchange per week
7000 ZP - for an invited referral.
1750 ZP - for each exchange.
10000 ZP - for errors found in the protocol.
