Football returns in Spain and Italy
Spain’s top flight football La Liga has returned after a gap of three months. The matches resumed from 12th June with no spectators in the stadium.
Lionel Messi was on form as Barcelona thrashed Mallorca 4-0 with Messi scoring one and setting up two. The win meant that Barca would be on top this weekend.
Real Madrid resumed the season on the right foot with a 3-1 victory over Eibar. Madrid dominated in the first half and scored three, while Eibar could just manage to get a constellation goal in the second half. Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo scored for Real.
Atletico Madrid resumed the campaign rather nervously as they could only manage a draw with Athletic Bilbao. The final score was 1-1 with Muniain and Diego Costa on the scoresheet.
After 28 games Barca (71 pts) lead the points table with real Madrid (69 pts) just two points behind. Sevilla (50 pts) and Real Sociadad (47 pts) hold third and fourth positions. It looks like an uphill battle for Atletico Madrid (46 pts) who are on the sixth position.
Juventus to play Napoli in Coppa Italia final
Juventus managed to draw with AC Milan in the second leg of Coppa Italia semi-final 2nd leg. The away goal scored in 1st leg secured their spot in the final.
Final score: 1st leg Milan 1 – 1 Juventus.
2nd leg Juventus 0 – 0 Milan.
Things were quite interesting in the other semi-final which was played between Napoli and Inter Milan. Napoli had a one goal advantage over inter and managed to draw with them in the second leg. Inter tried hard but couldn’t score a second goal. Thus the aggregate score was 2-1 in favor of Napoli.
Final score: 1st leg Inter 0 – 1 Napoli.
2nd leg Napoli 1 – 1 Inter.
The final is to be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on 17th June between Napoli and Juventus.
