Lalbuagcha Raja Ganesh Utsav Mandal to cancel festival this Year
For the first time in its 87 years of history Lalbuagcha Raja Ganesh Utsav Mandal has decided not to celebrate this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi as it has done in all these years due to covid-19.The Mandal is best known for its grand Ganpati statue and is very popular in Maharashtra.
On Monday the organization called a press conference to announce that they are cancelling this year. The Mandal declared a contribution of Rs 25 lakh for CM’s relief fund to fight the pandemic. The mandal also said that they will conduct a blood and plasma donation camp during 10 days of the festival which begins on August 22nd and ends on September 1st this year.
President of the Mandal Balasaheb Kamble said “our ideal is Nation first. It was not easy decision to call off the festival but we receive an average of 15 to 20 lakh footfalls each day, approximately 1.5 crore through the 11 days of Ganeshutsav and if the stream of devotees continued, it would become difficult to enforce social distancing norms.” The Mandal called its efforts ‘Aarogya Utsav’ instead of Ganeshotsav.
