Demolition of flyover on University road begins
For the development of the metro in Pune city, demolition of University and E-square flyover on University road begins.
PMRDA says they want as much as possible work to be completed in 10 days of imposed lockdown.
The demolition work is subcontracted to Matte and Associates, they were the ones who had demolished Mumbai’s Lalbaug flyover in record time.
The flyover was completed in 2007 at a combined cost of 28 crores and for 13 years, it served as a major link to many parts of the city, mainly easing traffic congestion on the busy Gansehkhind road.
Now, the two flyovers will make way for a 1.5 km long double-deck flyover that would accommodate both the viaduct of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro and vehicular.
PMDRA will now spend Rs 12.48 crore on the new flyover over 10 times the cost of the two existing flyovers.
“The safety of the citizens will be closely monitored until the flyover is demolished and a new one is constructed. I will continue to review the work. “says Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole.
