After faceoff in Ladakh, boycott Chinese products movement on rise
After the violence in Ladakh on Monday, anger erupted in the nation against China and people are demanding an economic ban on Chinese goods. The first initiative was taken by the Indian Railways by cancelling their contract with the Chinese firm. The public utility DFCCIL (Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India) said it was ending the Rs 471-crore contract “in view of poor progress”.
This is the only megaproject in Indian Railways which has Chinese presence. The contract, worth around Rs 500 crores involved designing, constructing, testing, supplying, telecommunicating, commissioning, signalling as well as associated works for two lines of 413 km in UP’s New Bhaupur-Mughalsarai section.
At least four other Chinese firms which are involved in the Railways project are likely to lose their business.
According to government sources, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has also asked the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) not to use Chinese-made equipment in the up-gradation of its 4G facilities.
The Confederation of All India Traders appealed to celebrities including Amitabh Bachhan, Akshay Kumar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar, to stop endorsing Chinese products under its “Bhartiya Saaman – Hamara Abhiman” campaign.
