Top deadline day transfers

The European transfer window concluded on October 5 and just like each year there were major signings on the last day of the window. Some of the top picks are:

Edinson Cavani

Uruguayan striker and PSG’s record goalscorer Edinson Cavani has joined Manchester United on a free transfer. The 33-year-old striker was released by PSG at season end and was looking for a new club. He has joined United for one year with an option to extend for another. He will earn around £10 mil a year. United also secured Alex Telles from Porto for £13 mil, Amad Diallo from Atalanta for £36 mil and young winger Facundo Pellistri. However, Diallo will join the Reds in January.

Thomas Partey

Arsenal have successfully managed to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid by paying his release clause to La Liga, which was around £45 mil. The last-minute signing has strengthened Arsenal’s midfield. Atletico had signed Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira in a one-year loan deal.

Federico Chiesa

Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa completed his move to Juventus on the last day of the transfer window. Juve have signed the talented Italian on an initial two-year loan and then have an obligation to complete the transfer by paying £36.4 mil to make the move permanent.

Douglas Costa

Douglas Costa joined his former team Bayern Munich on a yearlong loan. Costa had an uncertain future in Turin under new boss Andrea Pirlo. Bayern also signed free agent Eric Maxim Choupo Moting for a year after he was released by PSG.

Ben Godfrey

Everton strengthened their defence by signing Ben Godfrey for £20 mil from Norwich City. It was a successful transfer for Merseyside as they had already signed James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré earlier. Theo Walcott left Everton and joined his boyhood club Southampton for a year loan on the deadline day.
