Maharashtra government allowed to reopen cinema halls from tomorrow
The Maharashtra government has allowed cinemas to reopen from November 5 with 50% capacity. The order from the state said to reopen cinema halls, theaters, multiplexes and drama theaters which are outside the containment zone.
The opening comes with restrictions too, like no eatables will be allowed inside the auditoriums. SOPs for the same will be issued by the cultural affairs department and local authorities to make sure that rules are followed properly as per the order.
The cinema halls and theatres were closed from March due to the nationwide lockdown announced by central government but after a few months it’s up to the states to take the decision to reopen the cinema halls and theatres.
States like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra remained a significant exception, preventing the release of Hindi movies. For many movies Mumbai and Delhi together make up for nearly 50% of the domestic box office revenues.
“Finally, the moment we have waited for. Cinemas in Maharashtra are permitted to commence operations from tomorrow with 50% occupancy and detailed SOPs will be issued soon. A step towards the resurrection of the film exhibition sector,” independent exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi tweeted.
Apart from theaters the government also allowed the reopening of swimming pools used for the training of state, national and international level sportspersons, yoga institutes and indoor sports outside the containment zones, SOPs for all of which will follow.
