NIRF Rankings for Indian institutes announced

The NIRF ranking which were to be announced in April but got delayed due to covid-19 crisis, have been announced. On Thursday education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the NIRF Rankings for Indian institutes. As usual IITs were on the top in engineering category but IIT Madras has emerged as the best in overall category.

By securing second spot in overall category IISc Bengaluru maintained its status as one of the best institutes in India and first position in university ranking.

Top five Institute in overall ranking:

1. Indian Institute of Technology Madras

2. Indian Institute of Science

3. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

4. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

5. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

Among universities Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) secured 10th position even though their participation in anti-CAA protests in the national capital. Second spot was secured by Jawaharlal Nehru University whisch was also one of the major participant in anti-CAA protests and other political protest.

Top five Universities in India:

1. Indian Institute of Science

2. Jawaharlal Nehru University

3. Banaras Hindu University

4. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

5. Jadavpur University

Among colleges, pinnacle 3 spots were taken over by Delhi University colleges, namely Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram College, and Hindu College had been first, second, and third respectively. Fergusson College of Pune secure 42nd spot.

Top five colleges in India:

1. Miranda House

2. Lady Shri Ram College For Women

3. Hindu College

4. St. Stephen`s College

5. Presidency College

For this first time dental institute were ranked and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi has emerged as the best institute. Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Udupi, is at second spot and Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune is at third.

For management, IIMs were on the top IIM A, IIM B and IIM C respectively.

NIRF ratings are awarded primarily based on the subsequent parameters - Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
