After U.S, Britain ban’s Huawei in their 5G network
In a latest move to ban Chinese companies, Britain has banned Huawei from its 5G network despite warning of retaliation from Beijing and a victory for Trump administration.
Operators such as BT (BTGOF) and Vodafone have been given until 2027 to remove existing equipment’s of Huawei from their 5G networks and from now onwards they are not able to use Huawei’s equipment in their 5G networks.
"Given the uncertainty this creates around Huawei's supply chain, the UK can no longer be confident it will be able to guarantee the security of future Huawei 5G equipment," Dowden said
The U.S has effectively banned Huawei and other Chinese companies to participate in their 5G network portal. The decision is a huge blow for Huawei because the company has had deep roots in British telecommunication for almost 20 years.
"It threatens to move Britain into the digital slow lane, push up bills and deepen the digital divide," said Ed Brewster, a spokesperson for Huawei UK. "Regrettably our future in the UK has become politicized, this is about US trade policy and not security."
Britain’s decision to ban Huawei will put pressure on European countries. Germany already weighing the decision because China is very critical market for German automakers. Australia already issued a ban and Canada is considering as well.
The Chinese ambassador to Britain, Liu Xiaoming, warned London last week that excluding Huawei from 5G will “send out the very wrong message.” He stressed the growth of Chinese investment in Britain. “If you want to make China a hostile country,” he said, “you have to bear the consequences.”
The 5G debate in Europe reflects a changed geopolitical reality, said Bob Seely, a conservative member of Parliament.
