UCL to resume in August
UEFA has announced that the Champions League 2019/20 will resume in August. All the matches are said to be played in a single knockout game. All the games are going to be held in Lisbon.
With some of the 2nd leg matches of the round of 16 remaining, it’s unclear whether they will be held in Lisbon or the earlier venues. All games will be played in empty stadiums with all protocols followed.
Following are the first leg results of remaining round of sixteen matches:
Chelsea 0-3 Bayern.
Napoli 1-1 Barcelona.
Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester City.
Lyon 1-0 Juventus
Atalanta, PSG, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.
The fixtures dates have been released:
Round of 16 second legs – 7/8 August
Quarter-finals – 12/13/14/15 August, Lisbon
Semi-finals – 18/19 August, Lisbon
Final – 23 August, Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Lisbon
Chelsea could be on its way out with Bayern having a three-goal advantage. There could be a surprise in Barca vs. Napoli as the first leg was a draw. Juventus and Madrid will have to come from behind if they wish to succeed in the competition.
Timo Werner signs for Chelsea
Good news for all the Chelsea fans. German striker Timo Werner has signed for the blues from RB Leipzig for a deal around £50 mil. The 24-year-old striker has scored a staggering 93 goals in 157 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions in the past four seasons. With his peak years still to come Chelsea would think they have bagged a bargain.
With Hakim Ziyech arriving from Ajax, Frank Lampard’s team could be a major contender to win the Premier League next season.
