Ligue 1 comes to an end due to the pandemic

French Prime Minister Eduard Philippe has ended the French Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, two major football leagues in France. The PM conveyed through his speech to the National Assembly that professional football won’t return before September.

Philippe said,” big sporting events won’t happen before September. The 2019-2020 season won’t restart.

“Major sporting and cultural events, in particular festivals, large trade fairs, all events bringing together more than 5000 participants, will not be held before the month of September.

“This decision concerns all professional sports, starting with football, but also rugby, basketball and more.”

Currently Paris Saint-Germain top the Ligue 1 table by 12 points followed by Marseille and Rennes, with a match reaming between 1st and 2nd placed teams.

Toulouse are rooted to the foot of the table with Nimes and Amines on 18th and 19th spot.

There is meeting scheduled on Tuesday between the Sports Ministry, the LFP and French Football Federation (FFF).

The Eredivisie (Dutch football league) was last week cancelled with no champions crowned, no promotion or relegation.
