Premier league returns today
Premier league restarts today after the break. With match days to go there’s too much on the line for teams.
On top of the table, Liverpool sit comfortably at first position with 82 points from 29 games. They just need to win two more games to claim their first premier league title since 1990. They have dominated this season and the 25 points lead reflects that.
Manchester city occupy the second spot with 57 points but are unlikely to challenge the leaders at the end of the season. Although they are in a champions league spot they were handed a two year ban from the competition for breaking the financial fair play rules. However City have appealed against it but the ban looks likely. This means that the fifth position team could qualify for the Champions league if the ban stays.
Leicester city is on third position with 53 points are most likely to end the season there as they have more comfortable fixtures lined up for them.
The real battle is for the remaining two champions league places with nine teams held neck to neck. Chelsea are on fourth with 48 points and just behind them are Manchester United with 45 points followed by Wolves(43 pts), Sheffield Utd (43 pts), Tottenham(41 pts) and Arsenal(40 pts).
The relegation battle at the bottom of the table could be exciting to watch. Six teams will be fighting to remain in the league. Currently Norwich occupies the last position with just 21 points and with a bunch of tough upcoming fixtures they could be heading back to the Championship (2nd division). The remaining two spots could be anyone’s with West Ham (27 pts), Watford (27 pts), Bournemouth (27pts) and Aston Villa (27 pts) in contention. Aston have a game in hand and could possibly turn the tables around.
The league returns with
Aston vs. Sheffield (22:30 IST, 17th June)
Arsenal vs. Man City (12:45 IST, 18th June).
As league comes to the business end there could be major upsets in the results could be expected.
