Assam flood getting worse; 21 district affected so for
People haven’t overcome from COVID 19 situation yet and Assam is battling the yearly human misery of flood, erosion and landslide. There has been constant rainfall across Assam and because of that mighty Brahmaputra swelled and is flowing above the danger level at many places in nine districts.
Due to flood, 21 out of 33 districts of that state are currently reeling underwater and around 4.6 lakh people are affected so far and a few have lost their lives due to dengue.
The National Disaster Response Force, Assam State Disaster Response Force personnel, along with local administrations, are continuously working to rescue the affected people and rendering the relief services, including distribution of relief to the marooned villagers.
Dhemaji is the worst affected, followed by Tinsukia and Nalbari. Authorities have set up 132 relief camp and distribution centres across 10 districts where more than 19 thousand people are taking shelter.
The annual phenomenon also brings a lot of destruction to river embankments, road bridges and culverts. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority is currently evaluating the damages.
“Heavy rainfall for three days has added to our problem of combating COVID-19,” Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, announcing an immediate release of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of each victim.
