India registers record number of COVID cases
India’s COVID cases hit a new high with 26,506 new cases in a single day and 457 deaths in last 24 hrs, taking the number of infected to 793,802 as per report of Union Health Ministry on Friday.
The country has witnessed more than 2 lakh cases since July 1 and recorded 20,000 new cases almost every day.
The number of recovered cases had overshot the number of Covid-19 active cases by 206,588 on Thursday and number of recovered cases is almost twice as compared to active cases.
“This is a result of focused attention on effective surveillance through house-to-house contact tracing, early detection, and isolation as well as timely and effective clinical management of COVID-19 cases,” the Centre said in a release.
India’s death toll stands at 21,604 after government released latest data.
Government said that India has lowest fatality rates in the world with deaths per million population at 15.31 and global deaths per million population stands at 68.7.
On Thursday Union health ministry said that patients over the age of 45 years, who form 25% of the country’s population, account for 80% of deaths in Covid-19 cases.
It also said that 49 districts across India are responsible for 80% of the total Covid-19 cases.
Maharashtra is the most affected state in India with the total of 2.30 lakh cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 126,581 Covid-19 cases and 1,765 deaths.
With the surge in Covid-19 cases, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal announce lockdown once again as a precautionary measure.
