Real Madrid are La Liga Champions
Real Madrid were crowned La Liga champion after their win over Villareal. They went into the game with a four-point lead over second-place Barcelona who were hosting Osasuna at Camp Nou.
Karim Benzema had opened the scoring for Madrid at 29th minute and scored a penalty in the second half. Villareal could only manage a constellation goal, Madrid won 2-1. This is Madrid’s 34th top division title, eight more than their rivals Barca.
Elsewhere, Barca lost 2-1 although Osasuna were a man down. Osasuna took the lead in the fifteenth minute but Messi equalized through a second-half freekick, but the winning goal came in extra time by Eric Torres.
Messi lashed out at the team in the post-match interview, saying,” We were a very erratic, very weak, low-intensity team…We lost a lot of points and today's game is a summary of the season.”
If Barcelona’s season continues the same then champions league glory would be just a dream for them.
The top four teams in the La Liga table are
Real Madrid (86 pts)
Barcelona (79 pts)
Atletico Madrid (69 pts)
Sevilla (67 pts)
There is still a matchday to go in the league. Real will face Leganes, Barca will be away at Alaves and Sevilla will host Valencia.
