High speed boats for Indian Army at Pangong Tso
The defence establishment is considering sending high speed boats to the army at the Pangong Tso region where the Indian and Chinese troops are locked in confrontation since May.
The new boats are said to be equipped with latest surveillance gear to match the technologically superior Chinese boats at the lake. But the plan may be delayed to logistical reasons as it’s very difficult to transport heavy boats into the area.
The 136 km Pangong Lake, two thirds of which is controlled by china spans from Tibet to India has been site of confrontation between the two countries for years. Chinese have often in the past disabled the Indian boats by ramming their bigger boats into them.
Since confrontation between the troops of both the nation in May, the PLA is said to have forcefully occupied the entire 8km stretch from finger 4 to finger 8 area. Since these incidents are now frequently happening in the area, the Indian Army is in dire need of advanced interceptor boats to counter the Chinese.
