Manchester United lose second in a row
Manchester United, who defeated PSG and RB Leipzig in their first two opening group matches in the Champions League lost to Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1. United started the game on front foot but two silly mistakes in the defense cost them goals. They also couldn’t create much chance in both the halves. It was their second defeat in a row after Arsenal beat them 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.
In other matches of the Champions League Inter lost to Real Madrid 3-2. Achraf Hakimi gifted a goal to the hosts early in the first half which was doubled by Real’s captain Ramos. Inter did manage to equalize in the second half with two good goals, but the winner came late by Rodrygo.
Barcelona also won their home game against Dynamo Kiev 2-1. Messi scored a fifth minute penalty before Pique doubled the lead in the second half. Tsyhankov scored the only goal for the visitors.
RB Leipzig defeated last year’s Champions League finalists PSG 2-1 at home. Di Maria gave PSG the lead in the sixth minute but N’kunku and Forsberg gave the hosts the lead. Kimpembe and Gueye were sent off in the second half of the match.
Juventus continued their winning run in the UCL by defeating Ferencvaros 4-1 away from home. Alvaro Morata scored a double before Paulo Dybala scored for the old lady. The fourth goal was an own goal by Dvali. Starman Cristiano Ronaldo, who was quarantined after getting the coronavirus, returned in style by providing an assist in the match. He had scored two goals in the last Serie A game after his return.
