Stress relief in 3 minutes

"[A smile] costs nothing, but creates much"

© Dale Carnegie

People who have achieved success in life have the ability to quickly attune themselves in just the right way. The secret lies in focus and training. When you work out and train your muscles, it doesn’t work out very well the very first time. But if you practice over and over, the result will naturally will turn out much better. In a similar fashion, you can train your hearing, memory, reaction speed, manners ... even your mood.

Everyone knows that when someone is upset – they frown, and conversely when they are happy – they smile. This conditioned reflex is developed from a very young age, possibly from birth, and it is this reflex which will help us.

As soon as you notice that you are being immersed into a state of stress or becoming a sad little sack of crap, don’t let the feeling grow, instead take control of it by:

✅ Isolate yourself from the source of stress (if it’s near you)

✅ Turn on your favorite music (something calm to balance out an alarming state and something energetic to raise your emotional background)

✅ Close your eyes and force a smile. Yes, I said force it. At first it will be difficult for you to smile, because you just were just in a state of stress. But by smiling, your body will immediately send a signal to the brain that everything is fine and your conditioned reflexes will start to reconfigure the brain, similar to Pavlov’s dog;

As you smile, think about something pleasant. It can be your children, animals, the ocean, absolutely everything that makes you feel good. You can start dancing, jumping around, singing, if the situation allows (although you should determine the boundaries yourself). This can even be done in the public bathroom of your office.

Important!

Train this skill, even if at first it seems uncomfortable or even silly. The smile will fade, but don’t forget to force it again until it becomes natural. The wider and more open the smile, the faster the desired changes will occur.

If this doesn’t seem to help, then turn on this OLD SPANISH GUY LAUGHING and try again.

This exercise can be done right after you wake up, or just to cheer yourself up. I practice this regularly. Three minutes and my mood is immediately raised by several levels.
