An instance of BBC being biased when reporting things about China

To teacher NJChristina01:

You are now seeing the content created by your student, aka "sctop" (@sctopzhang) on Twitter. I sent you a link to this article is because I need some extra stuff like pictures to prove my opinion.

So don't worry. This is just another site where I wrote stuff.

It's that the common bias against PRC & CPC in the Western world matters. And that's basically why we chose to block access to them. It has nothing to do with like "BBC is center-biased" or "CNN is left-biased"; it's a common problem, a common phenomenon.

To put it simply, it's because "EVERYONE IS BIASED ON CHINA." It has nothing to do with the individual ones.

While BBC may be "center-biased" like you said, but BBC, or rather, the entire Western world, IS biased when reporting news related to China. It might not happen all the time, but it often happens.

I will give a clear and simple example to show you.

On Dec 10, 2021, BBC News (international English version) published a video entitled "How everyday life has changed in Wuhan".

Then the next day, BBC Chinese ("BBC News 中文", the international Chinese version) published a video with the same content entitled "BBC紀錄片:一年後,新冠疫情如何改變了武漢" (translation: "BBC Documentary: After one year, how the COVID-19 pandemic changed Wuhan").

And now please take a closer look at these screenshots taken from the two videos, but all at the same time spot.

The second set:

Did you notice it? The color of the English version seems to be a little weird, while the Chinese version seems to be way more natural.

You are not seeing wrongly. The COLOR is different.

It's clear that they adjusted the color and used some filters to try to paint a picture of China which gives people a sense of lifelessness.

And not just the color. If you put all the bias aside and try to analyze this video, you would find there's much, much more problematic stuff.

For another instance, the position where the cameras were placed. All the shots are taken from a relatively low position, rather than the normal ones.

A rare case is that BBC would change the meaning of sentences by editing them deliberately. They may only keep the part where people expressed negative stuff but edited out the rest of the context. I can't give an example like that, but there're reports.

So, I don't know. But I felt like the Western media is trying to paint China, or more specifically the People's Republic of China (which also represents the Communist Party of China in some ways), a country where there's no freedom of speech, no democracy, but only the suppression, tyranny, the "Big Brother's Watching You" world.

It's like comparing to the Soviet Union or North Korea.

And, just a simple question, do you think that China is a country like that? I don't know, but at least I don't think so.

Oh, and don't forget about something like "China Threat" or "China Collapse". It's all true. Google it yourself.
