How I'm creating motion design video for Elon Musk and SpaceX
I've been working with video production for quite a while. And suddenly I was asked to make a motion design video where I could put into practice all of my skills and also raise a bar for my professional level. Since I'd like to include in this video things I never work with before, I came up with the idea of documenting this process.
And the topic of my video is SpaceX. It seems to me no one has any doubt that SpaceX is one of the main innovating and revolutionary companies. But what's important to me is the visual identity, style. Damn, it's sexy! It is in each detail and even in the way they act in public. I'm talking about their crazy things like Tesla in space... All of these things inspire me a lot. I think they push a great number of teenagers to dream big. And last but not least - Elon Musk can comment my video on Twitter ;)
One of the most important criteria in topic choice was the richness of visual anchors. As the usual observer, I was familiar with some of them. But to dig deeper I have asked about 50 people from the fan community, English and Russian speakers. Questions were like: "Why do you follow the company? Is it Musk's charisma or you dream about space in any way? What do you visualize, when you hear "SpaceX"? Actually, I was very surprised. Happened that some of them were just usual observers just like me, but others with all seriousness said that they are waiting for the opportunity of using commercial space flight. (And still, I do not fully believe they are, but then again, I had such responses). And according to their replies, the catchy visual anchors were landing of rocket stages on a barge, Tesla in space (of course), and Starship design. So I am going to use some of them in my future work.
After such preparation, I've started to work on the project. Here are some of the first raw materials I prepared:
