Volodymir Vaskin
Senior Assembler
More than 10 years in Artec 3D
Luxembourg office
Today I work as the chief of our company's assembly team. Since 2013, I have managed to make my way through the assembly of almost all the scanners we produce here. All the devices have passed through my hands, and I, metaphorically speaking, have passed through them.
A decade ago, our assembly team in Luxembourg were just the two of us: Leonids Averjanovs and myself. Occasionally, we'd receive assistance from individuals from Moscow, but largely, it was Leonid and me. With time, our team has grown to 12 members, assembling Artec 3D scanners.
Each device we make is unique, tailored by hand to ensure optimal functionality. This personalized approach demands varied techniques for each assembly, making the process akin to a mini-miracle upon completion.
At one time I assembled and repaired Artec Spider myself. Those partners and clients who brought the scanner to me for repair got so used to me that when they saw me they would say "Oh, look, here comes Spiderman!".
A hallmark of effective management is openness, readiness to assist, and attentive listening. I've had the privilege of training most of our current team members. Witnessing their growth and success under my guidance is profoundly rewarding.
I have a multinational, lively, sincere team. I communicate with everyone calmly on any topic. We start our working day with a couple of jokes. Without this, I think, it is difficult to have a positive outlook on things. I came, joked about something, remembered something, told something, and we continued to work hard anyway. But already with a smile.
It is no exaggeration to say that our scanners make the world a better place in many ways. And I can be proud of the fact that I am involved in this literally with my own hands. When I saw that Artec scanners were being used by Nasa, the excitement took over!
If one were to choose a book, let it be Orwell's “1984” and the movie would be Tim Burton's “Big Fish”.
When I was in university, I sang in a professional band in the student club. And many people thought it was some kind of phonogram, that I didn't sing in my own voice. When I found out that Misha Baev also likes to play, and later Anvar Khametov appeared, who also performed with serious bands in the past, I decided to suggest they get together and play something.
And so we joined in, just not knowing each other yet, not knowing what we were going to do, how we were going to play. And so, we started to perform something, to sing, a few minutes and the surprised look at each other said it all for ourselves. Now we are always happy to perform somewhere, including at Artec 3D events.
I really enjoy walking. My wife and I can just go for a long walk somewhere, several dozen kilometers at a time. When my son, who now lives in Barcelona and is studying rare diseases, comes to visit us, we sometimes walk more with him. Everything in Luxembourg is good, but it is important to be lucky with the weather for such activities, here it can be quite moody.
1/ What's your favorite dish to cook or to eat?
I really like to cook fried potatoes. But I rarely do it because my wife watches our diet. But as the saying goes: either we eat potatoes and don't look at the calories, or we look at the calories.
2/ If you would like to pick up any famous person to have a drink in a bar, who would it be?
I would like to talk to Andrei Makarevich. He gives me the impression of a very intelligent and revolutionary person, with whom I think it would be nice to talk. And I actually grew up on his songs.
3/ If you had an opportunity to switch for another's working department in Artec 3D what would you pick up?
I'm afraid that I'm in that position, I can't mess something up and stop a person from doing as well as they can. I'm a very humble person in that respect.
