As a system administrator, I handle a variety of tasks — from ordering computer tech to managing backups and deploying new IT systems. Essentially, our team stands as a blend of HelpDesk and IT infrastructure support of the whole company.
I go to the office daily since certain tasks require in-person attention. While much can be done remotely, onsite support is often necessary.Typically, when I check Slack on my phone already at 8-9 AM, there are already requests waiting to be addressed. For instance, we're currently planning to relocate some servers from DaVinci to Production.
What motivates me is seeing tangible results from my work—making things faster or easier for someone else. For example, our upcoming projects include virtualizing systems and implementing monitoring, hopefully going to enhance workflow efficiency.
I appreciate the collaborative environment of our small team, where I can seek advice or work together with others. If I'm unsure about something, I can reach out and someone will always assist. Misha Frontov (Head of IT Infrastructure) is always available to help.I admire his working capability! I've also worked closely with Lenya Starkov (System Admin in Montenegro) during our time together in Montenegro, which I remember as a great one. Moreover, we always discuss everything with our CIO, Alexandr Osipov.
Outside of work, I've picked up morning running as a habit. My favorite pastime, however, is going on road trips with my wife and son. We've visited places like Stuttgart, Strasbourg multiple times, and recently enjoyed a trip to the Netherlands where I recommend visiting Keukenhof, a stunning flower park in Lisse. Note that it operates around 2 months a year, approximately from the middle of March to the middle of May.
During these trips, I handle the logistics while my wife drives. Traveling by car allows us to explore less-known cities, like Reims on our way to Paris—a city known as "the city of kings" for its history of royal coronations at Reims Cathedral.
Luxembourg fascinates me as a melting pot of cultures, reflected in its welcoming attitude toward immigrants. One unique aspect I appreciate here is the efficiency in dealing with bureaucracy compared to Germany. Living amidst greenery gives us a constant countryside feel, and being centrally located in Europe allows us to easily attend soccer matches in neighboring countries like Germany and France. Our visit to Metz for a football game was especially memorable for my son and me.
