The State of Science Research in the Republic of Crimea

Crimean science is conducting research in various spheres, including various branches of medicine. Scientific activity is carried out within the framework of scientific platforms. For Crimea research in the field of recreational and rehabilitation medicine and balneology remains a specific area for the development of scientific research.

The leading achievements of Crimean science in the field of medicine are presented by S.I. Georgievsky Medical Academy

According to the academy, employees of almost all departments take part in research work. The main base for research is the Central Scientific Research Laboratory – within its framework, there are the following departments for priority areas of scientific research: biotechnology; biopharmaceutical research; electron microscopy; experimental and clinical pathophysiology; experimental pharmacology; experimental and clinical immunology; environmental risks and clinical physiology; microbiology; morphology; regenerative medicine, lectino - and immunohistochemistry .

Every year, the Academy carries out more than 40 scientific researches, several doctoral and more than 20 master's theses are defended, monographs and textbooks are published, academics receive several dozen patents. Part of the research is carried out within the framework of academic mobility programs, which make it possible to establish cooperation with leading scientific and educational medical organizations in Russia.

Over the past two years, thanks to the development program within the framework of the “Laboratory of Molecular Biology - LAMBI” project, a modern laboratory of molecular biology had been created. It has all necessary infrastructure and is intended for research of the human genome and other biological species in order to identify individual molecular genetic characteristics associated with the emergence and development of pathological processes. It also determines structural and functional signs of various organisms and their relationship with each other and with the environment.

The works of Crimean scientists are represented in other sectoral areas. Today, 30 organizations of scientific, industrial and educational activities are involved in scientific research and development of the republic, where more than two thousand full-time employees perform research and development work.

The volume of work performed by scientific organizations in 2019 amounted to 1.6 billion rubles. Research and development accounted for 79% of the work. Of these: fundamental and applied research - 71% of works, scientific developments - 8%. Scientific and technical services are provided extremely rarely (2% of the volume of work performed). The work is carried out mainly by scientific organizations themselves (97% of the volume).

Among scientific workers, researchers (about 45% of employees) have an advantage, occupying a special place in the scientific segment: every second of them has a doctorate or candidate of science degree. The priorities are various fields of biology (about 30% of researchers), agricultural and technical sciences (within 20% of researchers in each of the branches).

The average age of a Crimean researcher is between 30 and 39 years old.
