Industrial Complex of Republic of Crimea

Enterprises of the industrial complex of Crimea as part of the Southern Economic Region of the USSR specialized in mechanical engineering and metalworking (mainly in shipbuilding, instrument making, which served, first of all, the base of the Black Sea Fleet, located in Crimea due to the advantageous geographical and geopolitical position of the peninsula), chemistry and petrochemistry (based on local raw materials for production and water resources to provide it ), in the food industry and agriculture with specialization in the processing of fish, vegetables, fruits and grapes.

In the industrial sphere of the Republic of Crimea, more than 5,465 large, medium and small enterprises exist (including individual entrepreneurs occupying their niche in the industry), that employ about 106 thousand people.

The industrial production index at the end of 2018 amounted to 108.2%, while in the Russian Federation this indicator in 2018 was equal to 102.9%, this figure has increased compared to 2017.

A significant rise in the industrial production of the Republic of Crimea in 2018 is explained by the following factors:

1. Tavricheskaya and Balaklava thermal power plants were commissioned.

2. The share of mining operations increased in 2018 by 3.5%. This growth was ensured by the operations of construction materials quarries, which produced increased volumes of sand, gravel, crushed stone, pebbles.

3. Manufacturing industries increased their output by 7.5%. This growth was provided by major industrial complexes of the region in the following cities: Simferopol, Feodosia, Krasnoperekopsk, Kerch, Armyansk, Evpatoria, as well as in Bakhchisarai and Krasnogvardeisky districts.

4. Growth in transport engineering - by 37%, this growth was facilitated by operation of two large industrial plants in the city of Kerch: the Kerch Metallurgical Plant and the Zaliv shipyard.
