💫 NFTs are gaining popularity in the Bitcoin network
BitMEX noticed that in the Bitcoin network, using the Ordinals protocol, they began to actively create NFTs. From December 14 to February 7, more than 13,000 such transactions were created, occupying 526 MB of space on the blockchain. The NFT creators paid 6.77 BTC ($155,000) in fees. Bitcoin has even begun uploading legendary cryptopunks.
💡 Ordinals has recently appeared and allows you to create NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain, while completely uploading data to the blockchain, unlike most NFTs on other networks, where metadata is stored on centralized servers outside the blockchain and can be deleted at any time.
⚠️ The growing popularity of Ordinals is irritating some well-known bitcoiners who call users of the protocol spammers. They clog the already not very fast blockchain with JPEG files. NFTs occupy almost 70% of the block.
