How to use Magento as a Content Management System?

Giving your customer a satisfying experience should be your priority. The Content Management System (CMS) is an important component to enhance your customer’s online experience.

Many people integrate Magento CMS functionality with other third-party applications like Joomla or WordPress.

They think that the default Magento CMS lacks flexibility but apparently, that’s not the case. The Content Management System of Magento fulfills this role in a better way in most cases.

Here’s how-

1. CMS Pages:

CMS pages are used on your store for pages that comes outside of the Catalogue > Product > Checkout flow. These pages vary accordingly as per your terms and conditions, all the way up to complex, media-heavy pages.

While working with Magento’s CMS page you will get a “What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG)” box to enter your text in. This allows you to enter texts, CMS Blocks, and Widgets, media, and images.

With this freedom anyone can use the CMS page of Magento, you didn’t need to be versed in coding or HTML.

It allows you to choose specific layout designs and templates and the CMS page also lets you set the URL path and add metadata for the associated SEO benefits.

2. CMS Blocks:

CMS blocks are similar to CMS pages. They need to be inserted within a CMS page, product, catalogue or other system pages. They are not accessible independently.

CMS blocks can also be placed in a CMS widget. Similar to CMS pages, you will get a WYSIWYG input box. The only difference being is that here CMS blocks can be added to multiple regions and pages.

3. CMS Widgets:

This is the step-through which you can actually showcase your CMS content. CMS Widgets allows you to insert elements into your CMS content in special formats.

There are varieties of formats in this including simple rotating logos, integration with maps to locate nearest stores, or current bestsellers.

CMS Widgets allows flexibility. They can be placed in CMS Pages or CMS Blocks and can even have CMS Blocks inserted into them.

4. Customized Modules:

There will be many cases and circumstances in which the above options won’t work out. In those cases, Magento as CMS can still help you out. It is because of the customizable code base of Magento.

Custom made modules can be created, putting you in control over your platform and content. At a lower cost and greater ease of use, you will be able to maintain and update them as much as you like.
