Conference of Special Representatives of the EU and Central Asian States on Afghanistan

On February 23, 2022, Tashkent hosted a conference of EU and Central Asian Special Representatives for Afghanistan.

The event discussed international and regional efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Afghan crisis, to actively involve Afghanistan in regional integration processes, to restore the country's economy and to implement various infrastructure projects in its territory.

In his speech, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev highlighted the policy of Uzbekistan towards Afghanistan, its main aspects, including the need for constructive dialogue with the new government.

The participants of the meeting expressed concern over the difficult situation in Afghanistan and called on other countries to do good for the people of this country.

Atendees stressed that Afghanistan's new officials must live up to their promises and international obligations to form a broad-based government, respect the rights of women and national minorities, and prevent the country from becoming a haven for international terrorists.

The Special Representatives who took part in the event expressed support for the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to establish a Multidisciplinary Transport and Logistics Hub in Termez to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Continuation of this type of dialogue on a regular basis as a platform for consultations and cooperation in support of the Afghan people was consented.
