12th SCO Meeting on Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking

A serious threat to regional security and stability is caused by new trends in drug trafficking, including the active distribution of synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances, as well as the constant entry into illegal circulation of chemicals (precursors) used in the production of drugs, the abuse and distribution of drugs containing new psychoactive substances. substances for which control measures have not been established.

In addition, in connection with the current situation in neighboring Afghanistan, the ongoing growth of drug smuggling through the northern route remains relevant.

In this regard, in the current difficult security situation, in the face of the threat of further drug addiction in the region, the SCO, as an influential international organization, should play an active role in the fight against drugs, coordinate the activities of the anti-drug forces of the SCO member states and strengthen joint law enforcement activities to combat drug crime.

Cooperation in the field of drug control in the format of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is carried out within the framework of the Agreement between the SCO member states on cooperation in combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, signed on June 17, 2004 in Tashkent.
