Canoe Fishing Tips 101

When fishing from a canoe, in shallow or clear waters, it is important to be as quiet as possible. Fish can be easily scared away by loud or sudden noises in these conditions. You should also avoid striking the canoe's side with your paddle, or creating any other disturbances.

You can use a spoon to help you catch fish species such as lake trout, northern pike, and walleye while canoeing between fishing spots. To maximize your chances of catching a bite, cast as close to vegetation and structures as possible when you locate a good spot.

When learning to fish from a canoe, the most important thing to do is to be safe. Before you go on your first canoe fishing trip, take a boating safety class. Each state has its own set of safety rules that boaters and recreational paddlers must follow. Have fun and stay safe!
