Setting Up A Canoe For Fishing
- Your gear should be minimal and easy to carry. Only bring the tackle and gear you will use. If you plan on targeting smallmouth bass, for example, plan to leave your big tackle box full of muskellunge lures at home.
- Consider the water conditions when rigging a canoe to fish. There are two main types of canoe rigging: the gravity and the diamond. A gravity rig is best for experienced anglers who can fish in calm waters and have little chance of tipping. However, most canoe fishermen prefer a hybrid or diamond rig to keep loose items from rolling around in the canoe while learning to fish.
- Use waterproof dry bags and gear cases to protect your rig. Also, secure any fishing gear you don't use. If your canoe tips, you will have your gear dry so that it doesn't get ruined.
- You can add a motor to your canoe or an anchor for more control and stability.
