Formula 1 is coming back to Baku this September
Since 2017, Formula 1 has been a regular fixture in Azerbaijan’s capital. It is the only country from the former Soviet Union that consistently hosts this world-class racing event. The 2025 edition of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will run from September 19 to 21 on the iconic Baku City Circuit.
The Baku track, with its signature blend of high-speed straights and narrow, twisty corners, presents a unique challenge to both drivers and engineers. Motorsport enthusiasts from around the globe will gather to watch the thrilling race action live, so we recommend securing your tickets for the 2025 Baku Formula 1 Grand Prix early — available now on our website.
In addition to the racing, fans can enjoy live concerts by internationally renowned performers. While the list of artists is still under wraps, past events have featured top names, promising a festive atmosphere once again. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is much more than a race — it's a full-blown celebration. Baku, a vibrant city rich in heritage, has plenty to offer beyond the circuit, from historic sites to culinary delights and modern shopping.
One of the most challenging sections of the Baku track winds through the old city, where overtaking is almost impossible. Drivers must exhibit razor-sharp precision to navigate these tight turns. After that, a long straight by the sea allows cars to hit peak speeds and attempt dramatic passes. This dynamic layout guarantees suspenseful and entertaining racing that tests every aspect of a team’s performance.
Tire strategy will play a major role again, with Pirelli supplying various compounds that will shape each team’s approach throughout the weekend. Since 2024, all tires must also meet sustainability standards, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FIA extended its agreement with Pirelli in October 2023, continuing the partnership with Formula 1’s exclusive tire supplier — a role Pirelli has held since 2007 after Bridgestone’s departure. Each team is supported by a dedicated Pirelli engineer, and full servicing takes two days for all 12 teams.
In 2023, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc set the fastest lap in Baku, but Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Pérez still holds the record for most wins on this circuit. This year, Liam Lawson — a rising star in the Red Bull lineup — steps in. After winning the New Zealand Karting Championship in 2015, Lawson’s talent took him to the Red Bull Junior Team in 2019. Now he represents Red Bull Racing at the highest level, with high hopes from team leadership for a bright future.
